My name is Cynthia Martinez and I am currently an undergraduate student at California State University, Long Beach. I have wanted to work with Child Protective Services since I was 16 years old. In order to achieve this, I have enrolled within the College of Liberal Arts, to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
Once I finish my undergraduate program, I intend on applying to the “calswec” program to be able to have the means to earn a Master's degree within the Social Work field. If accepted into the program, I will receive the blessing of getting my graduate studies paid for by the scholarship and also being guaranteed a job upon completion of my units. A former roommate of mine grew up within the foster-care system. She is very grateful for all her social worker has done for her and was able to ask him if he would be willing to sit down for an interview with me. Fortunately he accepted, and I was able to ask him questions such as how he copes with the emotional exhaust brought upon by the injustices seen in his cases, how he forms a relationship with resistant children, what some of the biggest mistakes he has seen other social workers make throughout the years, and if there is one thing that he could’ve told himself before committing to this occupation, what it would be.
